Help communities protect their land, their livelihoods, and their future
Across the world, campesino farmers, Indigenous peoples, Afro-descendant communities, small-scale fishers and other rural families are facing profound threats to the places they depend on.
Many are losing their land, water, forests and income because of corporate malpractice-harmful projects pushed through without consent, polluted rivers, degraded soils, and environmental decisions made without the participation of the people who are most affected. And when people try to speak up, many face pressure, intimidation, or even legal threats.
The consequences are immediate and deeply personal:
-
lost livelihoods, lost security, and in some cases, the loss of home.
-
Grassroots families often feel isolated, unheard, and vulnerable.
Grassroots Resilience was created to empower those who are vulnerable, amplify their voices, and ensure they are not left to face these challenges alone.
Why Your Support Matters
For rural families, land and water are everything:
-
food, income and security
-
cultural identity and memory
-
a safe place to live and raise children
-
the foundation for their future
Yet many grassroots communities lack:
-
access to legal advice
-
knowledge of their rights
-
support when confronting environmental harm
-
protection when facing intimidation or malpractice
-
networks that can help them respond safely and effectively
These gaps leave people deeply vulnerable to corporate malpractice, especially when powerful interests make decisions that reshape landscapes, livelihoods and futures. No one should have to face these pressures alone.
What Grassroots Resilience Does
Grassroots Resilience empowers communities to defend themselves with practical legal tools, trusted guidance, and supportive networks across regions.
We work through three core pillars:
-
Best Practice Forums. Safe, collaborative gatherings — online and in person — where community leaders learn from each other, share strategies, and strengthen their ability to respond to the challenges they face.
-
Clear, Accessible Legal Tools. We create resources that communities can use immediately, written in clear language rather than legal jargon:
-
step-by-step guides
-
practical toolkits
-
legal strategies and examples
-
case studies from other communities
-
explainers on international mechanisms
These help people understand their rights, their options and how to seek support.
3. Regional Networks. We connect grassroots leaders, local advocates and legal allies across regions so that vulnerable communities are no longer isolated.
If one group faces pressure or potential malpractice, others can step in with solidarity, knowledge and support.
CURRENT FOCUS
We have already secured £150,000 of the £170,000 need to extend our work to Africa in 2026. We are now raising the final £20,000 so the next Best Practice Forum and the wider legal resource hub can be delivered.
Your support today will:
-
Help community leaders travel safely to the 2026 Forum
-
Provide them with practical, usable tools to take home
-
Fund the development of new guides and resources
-
Build the online hub that will support communities long after the Forum ends
-
Ensure every community participating receives ongoing connection and guidance
With your help, we can close the gap and make this possible.
