The United Kingdom Social Enterprise Fund
The Creative Industries account for 1 in 11 jobs in the UK. Each year, the creative sector's contribute £87bn to the economy. However there is a lack of mainstream implementation of the arts as a tool to create sustainability in the long-term battle for equality and opportunity for all.
The United Kingdom Social Enterprise Fund (UKSEF) has been carefully tailored to address that gap and to provide practical solutions. The UKSEF will empower artists to become successful, socially-enterprising business leaders, drivers of positive social change, job creators and creative industry ambassadors.
The Awards are designed to provide not just training to carefully selected winners, but also to serve as inspiration to their peers and the next generation of liberal arts graduates. Our aim is to inspire the next generation of “artrepreneurs”.
Building on the success of our existing Award model, the UKSEF will include the following components:
• Financial Support
• Residential Leadership Training
• Short Courses
• Mentoring and Coaching
• The opportunity to attend and speak at special events
The UKSEF will be piloted in 2018 in the London Borough of Newham. There will be two independent Awards: One for young people aged 20-35, and a second for the over 60s. Awards in both categories will be open to those who live, work, or study in the borough of Newham, and where we see an opportunity to galvanise the creative industries for social change as a catalyst for social integration. Working with local partners, the awards will focus on sustainable design.
Newham is the 6th most deprived area in UK. It has the highest rate of child poverty in London, the highest youth population in the UK, and its remarkable ethnic diversity. Newham currently has a comparatively low business base but is poised for explosive expansion in the creative sectors due to redevelopment initiatives.
Prospero will partner with The Good Hotel, part of the Good Group, a hospitality social enterprise in Royal Victoria Dock. We will also partner with further education institutions, local council, and other key organisations working in the area.
Please contact us for further information or if you would like to discuss partnership opportunities.
